Welcome!
This is the latest iteration of this website. v18.0, maybe?
I started it in 1996 on GeoCities, that free bastion of homemade websites in the late ’90s. My wife and I were living in a small town in North Dakota, and all of our family were back in Minnesota, where we’re both from. Well, okay, I was born in Iowa, but grew up in Minneapolis. Anyway, my wife was pregnant with our son in 1996, and this was the best and easiest way to share events with everyone back home. I’d discovered that Netscape incuded a rough WYSIWYG (look it up if you don’t know what it means) website editor, and we worked at a newspaper publisher, so I had easy access to a scanner.
But as with all things internet, the natural question came up: what else could I do with this site? So I started posting other stuff.
It’s evolved over the decades. And moved. I bought the domain and have had a hosting service how for almost 20 years. I tried to do daily or weekly posts on politics, society, movie reviews, cooking, diabetes, and even some short serialized stories. And I’ve always lost interest in doing it because there’s always a point where it becomes a chore.
So I’ve been away for a couple of years. Sometime around COVID, I gave it up because I didn’t have a model that interested me.
But why and what now? I’m envisioning a blog talking about my interests: shaving, cooking, technology, laundry, recycling, diabetes. I hesitate to call it a lifestyle blog because the people who tend to identify themselves that way are kind of infuriating, but if you must categorize this space, then I guess that’s what it is. But my intention will be to not insist that my way is the only right way.
So stick around as I share things that I find interesting and worth sharing.
And let me know what you think.
Thanks!
