The latest Mail Call.

Just when I think I’m out, they pull me in again with their sales and products and…and…Okay, it’s a weakness, really. Probably bordering on a compulsion. I get an email from Maggard or Razor Emporium, and I’m just itching to make a purchase.

A 10% discount shouldn’t elicit that big a response, right? But here we are, with four new soaps, a brush, and five new to me blades. And how many of them did I really need? None. Absolutely none.

Saponificio Varesino 80th Anniversary shaving soap.

Except…I’ve wanted the Saponificio Varesino 80th Anniversary soap for quite a while, and after deciding to get some, it was practically impossible to get, so I settled (Ha! Yes, “settled.” Go with that one.) with the 70th Anniversary soap. And I loved it. But, you know, it is an 11-year-old soap formula. Then this sale came, and the 80th was available, and well…Stuff happens.

Le Père Lucien Traditional Shaving Soap

And–Ooh, look! A French soap brand I’ve been wanting to try that doesn’t have samples! Le Père Lucien Traditonal! In a not huge or super expensive size! Add to Cart <click>!

See, I’m really realizing that I really like shaving with French and Italian shaving products. You know, like SV up there, or Proraso, Cella, TFS, Pre de Provence, Martin de Candre…Oh, speaking of which…

Yeah, after a sample of Martin de Candre Original blew me away, I happily tossed in samples of MdC Magellan and Vetiver to this order. You know, for comparison.

The Maggards’ Purple Swirl synthetic brush.

The brush. Yeah, I’m now addicted to brushes, I guess. Especially since there really aren’t many more razors that I really want. And I’m drawn to really good looking synthetics now. I had three brushes for quite a while, and that worked. But somehow now, I’ve got 8?

Bic Astor blades.

And yeah, more blades. Why? Because I wanted to try them out for one reason or another. After the whole thing with the Personna Gem blades replacing the Comfort Coated blades, I’ve noticed that they’re still out there, so might as well try some out before they vanish, right?

And the Bic Astors? People keep telling me that they’re the same as the Bic Chrome Platinum. Or they’re better. Or worse. But people out there like them, and I should give them a try because someone said I should.

Bolzano Superinox blades.

The Bolzanos show up relatively frequently, so why not? This was a build-it-yourself sampler pack, so I need something to fill it?

Gillette 365 blades.

And the Gillette 365s? Because Gillette doesn’t make a bad blade. At least in my experience.

And Tatara? Their razors are supposed to be outstanding, and what seems better than a Japanese branded blade made in “Europe” (Seriously, that’s what it says…Made in Europe.)?

So yeah, another $100 box of happiness arrived and I’m pleased. Reviews forthcoming, of course. Stay tuned.
