The Long Overdue Gillette Black SOTD

Let's face it, Gillette is the thousand-pound gorilla in shaving. They have a strong foothold in just about every aspect of shaving, and have a pretty broad product line (though you'd almost never know about their safety razor products if you went to their website). So way back in January (which...

The Mild Strangelet 200th Shave Week

It's the last week (for now) with the PAA Platinum Strangelet Super Sharps. This week, I'm going with the Henson Medium, and while I could finish the tuck over the next two weeks and try it in the King C Gillette or Parker Semi-Slant, I won't. At least for now. It's...

A Mea Culpa

Okay, you know how I've said I've only got a couple of blades left to try? Yeah...Not so much. I found the contents of a couple of samplers stashed in the Proraso green box. Somehow I hadn't shared them, and logged them in the collection. So yeah, I've got more blades....

The Medium Strangelet Shave Week

Week two with the Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Platinum Strangelet Super Sharp blades. This week, I've moved over to the Henson medium, and I think I kind of know how this week is going to go. Last Thursday's shave with the Rockwell's plate 5 was fairly aggressive feeling, though oddly it wasn't...

The Strangelet SOTD Week

After a few weeks of playing with my new Henson medium and trying out blades that I've used before, it's time to get back to the two remaining blades that are new to me. The first, and the subject for this week and the next three weeks, is the PAA Platinum...

SOTD – Bonus Shave Edition

My wife and I are heading out to a belated anniversary dinner (31 years!) tonight, and I wanted to cut down the two-day stubble. So I started thinking about what I wanted to use in my 4th shave for the week--hence the bonus shave! Since these are one-offs, and they don't...

The Mostly Proraso White Shave Week

I've been shaving with the Proraso white combo since early March of this year. And the Proraso soap was the second soap I purchased and used in shaving. It because a long-time staple of my Sunday shaves, becoming the defacto standard to start my shave weeks. But now that I've added...

Changing the Ratings

Back to the spreadsheet! I bet you never thought you'd see so many entries about an Excel sheet in a primarily shaving blog... I live by rating the shave products I use, along with the comfort, quality and overall ratings of each shave. It was the only way I could think...

The “How Medium is the Medium” SOTDs

In the Planning the SOTDs post, I talked about what goes into planning the shaves, and two considerations that came into play in a big way this week were a theme, and continued experimentation. This week, I'm continuing to use the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless (green) blades. I've got 52...

Sample Reviews – Part Two

A little while ago, I reviewed some of the samples I'd received in July, with a promise that I'd be back to review more of that collection. So here goes, the review of the rest of the samples: Edwin Jagger pre-shave, shaving cream, and aftershave lotion. The pre-shave got a review...
